The NSCC/NLCC is a nautically oriented training program for young men and women, ages 10 through 17. The NSCC/NLCC allows young people to sample military life with no obligation to join any branch of the armed forces, a chance to "test drive" the Navy. Should a cadet decide to enlist in the armed forces, prior NSCC service may permit entry at an advanced pay grade. The NSCC is not part of the Navy, rather it is a federally chartered nonprofit organization. NSCC/NLCC staff participation is on a volunteer, non-paid basis.
The NSCC/NLCC excels at instilling courage, patriotism, self-reliance, accountability, pride, seamanship, and other kindred virtues within the cadet. The NSCC strives to provide a broad educational base to help develop each cadet into a stronger person. To this end, a combination of hands on training and classroom lecture is used to present the materials. Civilians and military personnel present the full range of civilian and military options available to them, and to help explain youth's responsible role in society. Personal improvement classes, such as Physical Training, Drug and Alcohol Awareness, and Study Skill classes, are offered by most units on a regular basis.
Hands-on training for Sea Cadets is authorized on board ships and shore activities of the Navy and Coast Guard. Training is conducted by military personnel and by qualified NSCC officers and instructors. Examples of available NSCC training include: Recruit Training, Shipboard Training, SEAL Training, Medical Training, Aviation Ground School, and Foreign Exchange programs to such locations as Bermuda, Belgium, Canada, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and South Africa.
Freedom Division is not only looking for patriotic youth to be part of our team, currently we are accepting applications for patriotic adults that yearn to not only teach, but mentor and lead young people into their futures! Contact MIDN Brian Kelley , Executive Officer.
